A different kind of care begins with a different kind of question.
Shaun’s Story
In October 2024, after years of study, clinical practice, and a personal journey that began long before he ever stepped into a treatment room, Shaun (Yu-Kuang) Chen opened Shaun's Zen TCM & Acupuncture in Richmond, BC.
Shaun Chen did not set out to become a TCM practitioner.
Before Chinese medicine, his path was shaped by structure, logic, and precision — from Taiwan to Canada, through a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, and into a life built around measurable outcomes.
Then his body began telling a different story.
Tests came back normal. The discomfort did not go away. And Shaun found himself sitting with a question that conventional medicine could not quite answer:
If nothing is wrong, why doesn’t anything feel right?
That question became the beginning of a much deeper search.
Shaun found his way to Traditional Chinese Medicine, then continued into Zen and Buddhist philosophy, Taoist thought, classical martial arts, and zhan zhuang standing practice.
He studied across Eastern and Western traditions — not looking for a system to follow, but for an understanding he could honestly stand behind.
What emerged was a conviction that continues to shape his work today:
The body matters. So does the inner state behind it.
Shaun went on to train in TCM in both Taiwan and Vancouver, BC. Today, he is a registered TCM practitioner, instructor for the Acupuncture program at Vancouver Career College, and international speaker. He speaks internationally on Traditional Chinese Medicine, bringing the same depth, discipline, and directness to education that he brings to his practice.
“To be truly well is to love life — to find stillness within uncertainty.
When the heart is understood, the wisdom of Yin and Yang reveals itself. And where Yin and Yang are in harmony, health arises naturally.”
–– Shaun Chen, Owner & Founder of Shaun’s Zen TCM & Acupuncture Clinic
The heart as root.
Turn inward. Rebalance. The mind, heart, and body move as one.
Carrying the philosophy into care
Rather than looking at symptoms in isolation, Shaun looks at each person's health from a systems level — treating what is present, while also paying attention to the patterns underneath. The goal is not only short-term relief, but care that supports deeper, longer-lasting balance.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, health is not a fixed state. It is:
a living balance — between the body and its environment, physical function and emotional state, daily habits and inner rhythm.
Because that balance is always shifting, Shaun takes time to understand where you are now. Pain, poor sleep, digestive discomfort, fatigue, stress, hormonal changes, and emotional strain may seem separate, but they are often connected. Each signal offers insight into the body's deeper state.
His aim is to help you understand what your body is communicating — and to build the kind of rhythm that supports you over time.
