Acupuncture

Stimulating balance from within.

Acupuncture is a time-honored medical practice used for over 2,500 years and now widely studied for its therapeutic benefits. It is a regulated healthcare profession in British Columbia and recognized worldwide for supporting a broad range of health concerns.

What is acupuncture?

By placing ultra-fine, hair-thin needles at specific points on the body, acupuncture stimulates the nervous system and supports the body’s natural healing processes. It may help reduce pain and inflammation, balance hormones, improve digestion, enhance sleep, and regulate stress.

How Is Acupuncture Different — and Who Is It For?

While conventional treatments often focus on managing specific symptoms, acupuncture emphasizes supporting overall regulation and recovery. It is commonly used for ongoing or functional concerns where a gentle, whole-body approach may be beneficial.

Acupuncture may be a good fit for those seeking a natural, supportive option for chronic tension, stress-related symptoms, sleep concerns, digestive issues, or hormonal balance — either on its own or alongside conventional care.

at Shaun’s Zen

1. Consultation (15-30min)

Your visit begins with a conversation. Your practitioner will take time to understand your current concerns, how your body has been feeling, and what may be contributing to your symptoms. First visits go a little longer — there's more ground to cover when we're just getting to know your health history.

Based on the assessment, your practitioner will recommend a treatment plan suited to your body and where you are right now.

2. Acupuncture Treatment (60min)

You'll rest comfortably on a treatment table in a private room while fine, sterile needles are gently placed at specific points on your body. Most people feel little to no discomfort. Once the needles are in place, you'll have time to settle and let your body respond — many find this part deeply relaxing.

凡刺之道,氣調而止。——《靈樞·終始》

“The way of needling is this: when Qi is harmonized, stop.” This is from the Lingshu, Chapter 9 (Zhongshi). It captures the essence of acupuncture — the goal isn't the needle itself, it's the restoration of balance.
