Chinese Medicine Prescriptions

Layered formulas supporting whole-body regulation.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) prescriptions are customized formulas using natural ingredients designed to restore balance within the body. Each prescription is created based on an individual assessment of your constitution, health history, and current patterns of imbalance.

What are TCM prescriptions?

Unlike many pharmaceutical medications that focus on a single active compound, TCM formulas combine multiple natural substances that work together to regulate different systems in a coordinated way. They are commonly used to support long-term recovery and resilience.

Why see a practitioner for a prescription?

In British Columbia, Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners are regulated healthcare professionals with extensive knowledge of ingredient functions and training in prescribing formulas based on comprehensive individual assessment and clinical experience.

At Shaun’s Zen, we work with trusted suppliers who provide professionally sourced, quality ingredients for consistency in every formula.

1. Consultation (15-30min)

Your visit begins with a conversation about your current concerns, how your body has been feeling, and your general health patterns. First visits go a little longer — your practitioner will take a full health history to understand the bigger picture before recommending anything.

Using traditional assessment methods like pulse and tongue observation, your practitioner will piece together what's going on internally and recommend a formula suited to your body and condition.

2. Your TCM Prescription

Following your consultation, your practitioner will prepare a personalized formula for you to take home. You'll receive clear instructions on how to prepare and take it.

Prescriptions are typically issued in 5–7 day increments, with follow-up adjustments made as your body responds over time.

TCM formulas follow the principle of “Jun–Chen–Zuo–Shi,” where each ingredient plays its role, working together to restore balance within the body.

Pricing

Prescription cost varies based on the herbs required and the number of days prescribed. It typically costs $30–$50 per day. Your practitioner will confirm the cost during your consultation.

For initial visit, there will be a $30 comprehensive assessment fee.
